I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I live in Virginia Beach, and probably about once a month or so I find myself with a need to go to Portsmouth for some reason or another. I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave Portsmouth without stopping by Uncle Rick's Frozen Custard on Airline Boulevard. There is ALWAYS a line... It is ALWAYS wrapped around the building and sometimes even spilling out onto Airline Boulevard. And I happily wait however long it takes to get to the window, I just pass the time by watching YouTube videos until it's my turn. This place does not have an "inside" for customer dining, but there are several tables and a bench swing out front for enjoying your frozen confections. So if you haven't visited here yet, be aware of that and know there are 2 walkup windows and a drive through. Everything is always fresh and delicious and the value is really really good and that's important in today's economy. My favorite thing to get is a Super Sundae--either turtle sundae or strawberry and wet walnuts ... By the way, Rick's is one of the last ice cream places around that still offers wet walnuts (DQ really let me down when they discontinued them). Best custard in the 757 in my opinion. If you're hungry for actual food, I recommend the pork barbecue sandwich -- extra hot sauce, extra coleslaw. Food 9/10 Customer Service 9/10

Simple, cheap, delicious! I always come to get a choco-rocko without the nuts and a hotdog. Great, cheap lunch/dinner. The service is always fast and I love the old diner feel even though it's all outdoors.

Excellent custard. Friendly service. Drive-thru is convenient for us, but the outside seating area/setting is nice while you wait. Our whole family loves this place! We will always return as long as we're living here!

Another gem I tried while visiting my niece. We arrived about 15 minutes before closing, and there was quite a line. But it moved quickly. They also had a drive-thru. You order at one window and pick up at another. I ordered a small turtle sundae which included pecans and caramel. I always opt for no whipped cream. Calories I don't need lol. The size was larger and the price cheaper than the custard spot I frequent in Jacksonville. This made me very happy. And the number of pecans blew my mind. I also enjoyed the christian music playing on the patio. I will absolutely ask my niece to bring me back on my next visit!

My husband and I went our first date alone since we became parents. We started with dinner, then checked out the casino and ended with custard. Let me tell you, it was the best hidden gem on this side of town. It was packed, even at 9pm. The drive through line was wrapped around the building. Yet, the teenagers that worked there were both kind and efficient. We ordered and it was ready lightening fast. To top it off, it was delicious! If you are ever looking for a super affordable dessert- highly recommend Rick's Frozen Custard.

This is one of my favorite places to get custard and the flavors are exceptional. Every time I visit the service is amazing everyone is friendly and patient. My go to is the turtle custard. It has pecans, hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream, and a cherry. The custard is so smooth and rich. I love the freshness of the custard. It's not too sweet it definitely hits the spot. The caramel and the hot fudge as a great balance to the custard. It is so filling and addicting. I actually prefer custard over ice cream. To me it's tastes so much better. The custard is thicker and to me taste more authentic. I absolutely love this place. The prices are very affordable as well.

Rick's is a Portsmouth gem. So many options to choose from and the staff are patient and will answer all questions. My niece and I got super sundaes. Flavors: vanilla custard, strawberries, and Oreos Vanilla custard, strawberries, and vanilla wafers The sundae was really good and filling. The Oreos were crunchy and provided a good balance with the glazed strawberries and custard. We sat in the patio area as there is no indoor seating and enjoyed the breeze. I love it here. There is a swing for the kids to play on. We will be back!

My kids and I were having lunch at Chick N Roll and as we were finishing up, my kids asked if we could go for ice cream. The server overheard our convo and suggested we go to Rick's Frozen Custard (RFC). I had heard the buzz about RFC from fellow Yelpers last Summer and had forgotten it was out in P-Town. Well, thanks to the server at Chick N Roll, my kids and I got a treat after lunch! It's an old school joint. It opened in the 19XX's LOL. You know it's old when it opened in the last millenia. They have a pick up counter on the outside or a drive-thru. That drive thru was pretty consistent and cars kept coming in and pulling up. There is only outdoor seating, but it is covered. They are obviously known for their custards, as their name suggests, but there are other items on the menu like no sugar added ice creams, super sundaes (huge), banana splits, dipped cones, sundaes (smaller, in a bowl), concretes (custard with mix-ins), malts/shakes, and smoothies with a plethora of toppings and extras to choose from. As for savory items, under the "Rick's Eats" section on their menu, they also have hot dog/chili dog, BBQ sandwich, nachos with cheese and chips. I wanted to start off my first visit with the basics, so I went with the classic dipped cone and my kids each went with an Oreo concrete (it's the DQ blizzard equivalent). Holy wow, the custard was so creamy. I'd be in deep trouble if Rick's was anywhere near my house. The kids really enjoyed their concretes and found joy in finding huge chunks of Oreo. It was pretty large (even though it's one of the smaller cups, as compared to most other things), so they were struggling by the end. Next time, I'll have to get one for both of them and get an extra cup or something. Had I not had a large lunch prior to our visit, I would have probably polished off their concretes too, but I behaved. Haha. This was a great way to wrap up our tour of P-Town. We most definitely will be back to indulge in their sweet and creamy custards. Stay safe, Friends!
